How irritating

>> Sep 30, 2009

Can you still think of your blackheads, kikay kits and vanity mirror in an evacuation area? Weird right? Last Saturday when we evacuated to my daughter’s school during the flood, there were several people who were able to go there ahead of us. I didn’t have any clothes with me so I just look for something to wear among the used clothes that were brought down by the school director. I didn’t care about how I looked as long as I was able to get some dry clothes to wear. I only have my bag which contains my cards and cell phone. In times like this you can’t get self conscious at how you look or be kikay but there was one girl who got into my nerves. She was busy looking at herself on the mirror, brushing her hair and complaining about her pimple. I even got more irritated when she and her sister rushed to the carpeted floor when she overheard that I’m telling the kids to stay in the carpeted area so they won’t feel cold. I was so irritated but I kept my cool. You’ll really find odd people even at times like this. Sigh..

Life Lessons

Sure enough, there’s no rich or poor when it comes to calamities. I was watching SNN last night and heard what Chokoleit, a popular comedian, said about his experience. He was also affected by the flood. The first floor of his house was drenched with water and mud and nothing was saved, even his plasma TV and plasma mounts. When one of his friends asked about his condition and he said that he was also hit by the flood, his friend commented…”What? you’re also affected? But you had a nice house…?” I won’t forget what he said in response to that comment. "Walang mayaman o mahirap pagdating sa mga ganitong sitwasyon. Hindi naman sasabihin ng baha na ay, maganda yung bahay na to, iiwas ako, no. All is fair in times like this. So wag na tayong maluho. The simpler the better.”

And I think he’s right. Life is more important than material things. And if we are blessed with so much, lets have the initiative to also bless others, share what we have when we know that we can help. Let’s do our part and give smiles to others in need.

Posting after the disaster...

I‘m back to work. My previous post was written last Sept. 26. The day flush flood hit the city were I live. I never thought that we’ll be terribly affected. Minutes after I wrote my post, the flood already entered our house and we we’re not able to save a lot of things. It was a horrible experience. But I’m thankful that the Lord did not left us when we need Him most. He kept us safe and nobody in the family got hurt. I feel sorry for those who have lost their love ones…those who have lost their homes. Those that until now have no food to eat, clothes to wear and shelter to live. Those who are struggling to move on.

Yesterday the sun was already up and some parts of the streets were dried. We went around to look for an ATM were I can withdraw some cash but we found none in Marikina. On our way, I saw the great damage the typhoon and the flood left through out Marikina. Mud is all over. It was really a disaster. Upon seeing these I was thinking, how long will we able to restore the whole city. Maybe it will take months.

We were able to find a BPI ATM center at Quezon City and a supermarket nearby. Since it’s hard to buy commodities in Marikina, it was a blessing to us that there’s a supermarket nearby. The place was crowded with shoppers who seem to be on panic buying. I’m just not sure if what they are buying are for their own consumption or for donation to those who were greatly affected. Anyway, I’m thankful that we’re able to buy our basic needs and necessities.

The rest of the day I spent cleaning our house and washing our clothes that got soaked in the flood. And since the supply of electricity was not yet restored, we have no choice but wash all of them using our hands. It was a tiring job. As of this moment, our house is better though our bed and furniture are still soaked.

The whole experience taught us a great lesson in life. And amidst all of these, I believe, God is still in control. There's is rainbow after the storm!

So...It's Going to be a Rainy Weekend

>> Sep 26, 2009

It’s a rainy weekend for us here in Manila. Typhoon Ondoy is hitting a lot of areas in the country. My sister just called to inform me that their house is drenched with flood. The rain is getting harder but I think there’s no announcement yet if classes in the college level will be cancelled. I’m worried about my brother. He slept late last night to finish his projects and cad drawings…I just hope it won’t get ruined by the rain.

Anyway, since it’s raining plans of going out won’t push through. We’ll just stay inside the house and enjoyed cuddling with the little girl. I hope I’ll also have time to finish all my LOs and Photo books.

Enjoy the rainy weekend!

Did we or did we not?

The Philippines is one of the most in demand country for outsourced customer service. Every year, BPOs are increasing in numbers creating more jobs for call center agents and customer service representatives. Call center companies are like mushrooms sprouting here and there. I know this beneficial but in some ways it also has its disadvantages.

For one, due to the US economic downfall I believe more Americans need jobs. I’ve heard of an instance that one foreign customer got irate to our local agent. Why? Because the customer said that we “stole” the jobs that should’ve been for them. That was hard, but I understand why he said that.

Anyway, let’s just see what the government will do about this and what will be the future of BPOs in our country.

Tagaytay

We’re planning to go to Tagaytay next month. It will be the family’s first time there if it will push through. The husband loves to visit the place and will try if the car can manage the long drive. And with that in our plan, I’m now considering buying outdoor pillows for my comfortable travel. Traveling while pregnant can be very uncomfortable but I hope the pillows can help. Anyway, the little girl will be joining their school’s educational trip which will be in Tagaytay on October 1 as well, but since I can’t join them, we’ve just decided to schedule our own family trip to the place. I’m beginning to feel the excitement.
